School Override Meeting Wed Jan 6

There will be a meeting at the Middleborough Library on Wednesday January 6, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00PM to discuss the school override ballot question. The meeting will be hosted by a group who call themselves Yes 4 Middleboro School. Their Website is http://yes4middleboroschools.com/

The exact amount of the override has not been presented to the Board of Selectmen but will be public once the warrant is set.

The question will appear on the ballot for the spring election which will be on Saturday, April 3, 2010. You must be a registered voter in Middleborough. If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, contact the Town Clerks office (located in the bank building) at the corner of Main and Centre Streets. You can also take out an absentee ballot (once available) at the clerks office.

Budget Review to Begin Tonight

Monday, January 4

As we start the new year, the Middleborough Board of Selectmen will begin the budget review process for FY 2011 at their meeting on January 4, 2010. The selectmen review process will take four weeks to complete. Tonight will include the sealer of weights and measures and building, police and fire departments.

The Charter Committee will receive a reappointment by the Board expanding their duties to include creation of town meeting warrant articles. Working with town counsel and the board. The Charter Committee presented the Board of Selectmen with a report, including recommendations, last year. Some points include a strong Town Manager and making the Town Treasurer an appointed position.

Also on the agenda is an update by the park commission on the status of the park superintendent, website update by the town manager and other regular business items.

Winter Storm Warning for Dec 19th

With a snow fall prediction of upwards to 12 inches in Middleboro for Saturday night, the entire town is busy with a flurry of last minute activities and preparations for the snow storm that will bring 20 inches to coastal New Jersey. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of southern New England which means that a significant winter storm or hazardous winter weather is occurring, imminent, or likely, and is a threat to life and property.

The Carver Cumberland farms was out of gas at 11 AM this morning and the line nearby was backed up out on to Route 58. With the first appreciable snow in the forecast, snow plows to snow blowers and shovels and more at being readied.

Shopping at grocery stores was brisk with people picking up staple item to get them through until Monday. People are being reminded to be safe and be prepared. Flashlights and warm clothes should be ready. If there is a power line down, remember that the line may be live so stay clear

Public Housing Vacancy

It was announced that the Middleborough Housing Authority expects to have vacancies in the Nemasket Apartments in the coming months. The current wait list has eight names on it but only one is from Middleborough and current residents of Middleborough have priority to the apartments.

The Authority expects that four of the apartments will be available. They are single bedroom and subject to certain restrictions, including income and background check.
