Selectmen Send Route 79 Agreement to Lakeville
Thursday, July 2
Town Manager, Charles Cristello, presented the Middleborough Board of Selectmen with an agreement with the Town of Lakeville for the maintenance and upkeep of the section of Rhode Island Road in Middleborough that will be dead ended with the relocation of Route 79.
The agreement is to include all maintenance, sweeping, snow removal, catch basin cleaning and more. Selectmen discussed the situation.
Relocation of Route 79 is planned for next year and will include the abandonment of the current intersection which is too close to the Route 495 off ramp. With increases in traffic, safety has become a substantial concern.
Middleborough town vehicles (trash pick up and school buses) will have to drive through Lakeville in order to service the current residents. An emergency access to the current road will be maintained for fire purposes.
The board voted to approve the terms of the agreement.
